Barry Athletic Away

Today the Smurfs travelled to sunny Barrybados to take on the the mighty Barry boys in what was built up a bigger game than the cup final.

Dinas started fastest out of the blocks and were up by 14 shots after 5 ends across the board with 3 rinks winning and 1 drawing. The away side with a point to prove after last weeks defeat didn't let up and took a commanding lead at the halfway stage with a 29 shots and now all rinks flowing.

By 15 ends the rink of Martin Clarke had given Barry a glimmer of hope to be within 1 shot with 6 to go. That rink all came down to the last bowl with shots going back and for. Dinas were holding the two for the win but a drive from Martin Clarke managed to hit a short barry bowl into the head and cut this down to 1 to earn a hard fort point for the home side.

Terry's chocolate orange, Elgan Evans ex-Barry stalwart Richard Bowen and Christopher big Chapman, Steve Linney Tim Hurcom Darren sleeves Turner and Mike the Whip Ackland never let up to run out comfortable winners.

On the last remaining rink skipped by former Dinas player Dean Rees it was a battle in which the Barry skip never gave up - 8 shots down with 2 play there was still a glimmer of hope, but Matt Gershenson, Dave Vowles, Gareth Griffiths and Mike Pickles Prosser saw the game out, dropping just a 1and 3 to win by 4.

Dinas would like to wish Barry all the best for next week and rest of the season.
